Michael J Marcil
Chief Executive Officer - Mr. Marcil co-founded The Marcil Group Inc. in 2004. During his tenure the company has grown to include over 1,700 residential rental units and over 600,000 square feet of commercial real estate valued in excess of $65 million. The company has maintained positive cash flow each quarter since inception and achieved asset and revenue growth of over 800% in 2006. In just three years, assets under management have expanded from $2 million to $150 million. A visionary entrepreneur-business developer, Mr. Marcil has more than 20 years of experience in building successful organizations. Through his leadership, the company has expanded to 23 employees in the Fargo headquarters and over 100 employees throughout North Dakota and Minnesota. During his business career Mr. Marcil has served in a variety of executive level and consulting positions within the real estate, economic development, marketing and technology industries. Mr. Marcil has served organizations including: Forrest City Real Estate, The State of North Dakota, Twin Cities Development Association, Black Hills Community Economic Development Inc., Big Sky EDA, Valassis Communications Inc., Nami Media Inc., Direct ResponseTechnologies, Inc., Food.com and Publishers Clearing House. Prior leadership roles included acquisitions, venture capital, management services and other business development and strategic activities. Mr. Marcil has established contacts and relationships with key investors, communities, businesses and political leaders in these areas. For our investors, he provides a unique perspective and access to information and valuable opportunities not available to other investment groups. Mr. Marcil is a graduate of The University of North Dakota.
Arthur Rosenberg
President - Mr. Rosenberg has been instrumental in the early formation and development of the company and the management team. He has attracted more than $20 million in private equity financing for real estate and non-real estate investments. As president, he oversees all development and equity financing activities. Prior to joining The Marcil Group, Mr. Rosenberg founded Renaissance Ventures, a regional $5 million venture capital fund. In addition, he established Davinci Management Group, a successful business finance and consulting firm that provided support to companies seeking venture capital and institutional funding. Mr. Rosenberg continues to serve on advisory boards for several companies including Convexity, Linkup, Feed Management Systems and Composite America. He is a graduate of the University of North Dakota, Grand Forks, where he earned a bachelor's in business administration with a major in management. He is a member of the Minnesota Venture Capital Association, the Sigma Chi Fraternity and Rotary International.
Trisha Bothum
Chief Financial Officer - Ms. Bothum co-founded The Marcil Group Inc in 2004 and is responsible for all financial and accounting activities. Ms Bothum is a certified public accountant and along with her staff of accounting and legal professionals manages all financial aspects of the Marcil Group, the Marcil Group's subsidiaries, and all related real estate holdings and other investments. With her broad experience with systems and business processes, Ms. Bothum has been instrumental in establishing accounting, management and audit methods that have allowed the Marcil Group to scale quickly. Prior to joining The Marcil Group, Ms. Bothum worked for 15 years in a variety of capacities for various multibillion-dollar corporations, including five years with Oracle Corporation at its Redwood City, Calif. headquarters. In her role with Oracle Ms. Bothum was responsible for complex global forecasting and finance functions that comprised over $400 million in annual revenue. Ms. Bothum holds a Bachelor of Science in accounting from the University of Phoenix and also attended the University of North Dakota, Grand Forks.
Joel Fremstad
General Counsel - Mr. Fremstad is a licensed attorney with a diverse legal background. As General Counsel for the Marcil Group, he will oversee the legal issues involved with The Marcil Group and its subsidiaries and affiliated businesses. As Vice President of Human Resources he will assist the Group’s Senior Management with workforce and organizational issues. As Vice President of Corporate Development and Corporate Secretary, Mr. Fremstad will help to bridge communications between the Group’s Board and Senior Management, investors, national and local leaders and development partners, and employees. Prior to joining the Marcil Group, Mr. Fremstad was a Partner with the Nilles Law Firm, Legislative Counsel to United States Congressman Earl Pomeroy and Law Clerk for the North Dakota Supreme Court. He is a graduate of the University of North Dakota School of Law and is licensed in several federal, state and tribal courts.
John Deneen
Vice President of Property Management - Mr. Deneen brings over 20 years of property management experience to his role with The Marcil Group. He is responsible for the management and operations of over 1,600 residential apartment units in the region. Prior to joining The Marcil Group his roles included Executive Vice President and General Manager for the New Harey Development Group in St. Paul, Minnesota, with duties including financing, construction, development and sales; and Regional Manager for Equity Residential Property Group in Charlotte, NC, the largest Real Estate Investment Trust in the United States. Mr. Deneen attended Illiniois Benedictine College in Lisle, Illinois.
Michelle Swanson
Corporate Controller - Ms. Swanson is a certified public accountant who brings extensive accounting and tax experience to the group. Her primary responsibility is management of the accounting department. She is in charge of financial reporting, developing and maintaining controls, internal auditing, and tax issues. Prior to joining the Marcil Group, Ms. Swanson worked over 12 years in public accounting. As a manager at Fiebiger, Swanson, West & Co., PLLP, she assisted clients from a variety of industries in developing financial and internal controls and preparing and presenting financial statements and tax returns. Ms. Swanson holds Bachelor’s of Science Degrees in Accounting and Business Administration from North Dakota State University.
Daryl Brasel
Assistant Controller - Mr. Brasel is a certified public accountant as well as a certified internal auditor with over 15 years experience in accounting and internal auditing. His responsibilities include overseeing and assisting with financial reporting, developing and maintaining controls, internal auditing and tax issues. Mr. Brasel graduated from Minnesota State University, Moorhead with a degree in accounting.
Jeff Nyquist
Marketing Director - In his marketing role at The Marcil Group, Mr. Nyquist is responsible for the company’s messaging, from tactical marketing activities to strategic design. Jeff brings over 20 years of media experience to The Marcil Group. He was the circulation director and core management team member for 12 years at The Forum, North Dakota’s largest daily newspaper. Later Mr. Nyquist was the general manager for Showcase Advertising. From copywriting to media placement to winning an ADDY award for a broadcast design, Mr. Nyquist has a broad variety of marketing experience. He has a Bachelor of Science degree from Minnesota State University in Moorhead, Minnesota.
John Kinzel
Commercial Funding Manager - Mr. Kinzel serves as the commercial funding manager for The Marcil Group. He is responsible for structuring and securing local and national debt financing for the commercial real estate portfolio. Born and raised in North Dakota, Mr. Kinzel’s experience includes Marshall BankFirst, where he was a senior credit approval analyst. Before that he was at Wells Fargo (Minneapolis) in the asset backed securities division, with roles that included asset analyst, bond analyst, and Assistant Vice President. Mr. Kinzel holds an MBA with a concentration in venture management from the University of Saint Thomas in St. Paul and a bachelor’s degree in finance from Minnesota State University in Moorhead, Minnesota.
Nick Hacker
Business Development Manager - Mr. Hacker is instrumental in assisting the company with capital functions, business modeling, deal structuring, and developing sound and accurate pro-forma’s related to real estate. Prior to joining The Marcil Group, he served at the Center for Innovation in Grand Forks for more than three years as a financial analyst and entrepreneur consultant. From creating the market analysis to signing the commercial leasing Mr. Hacker has the ability to work with both the company and client to identify and create new opportunities and strategies that help everyone succeed. In addition to his role at The Marcil Group he is a North Dakota Senator who at the age of 22 was the youngest person in the history of the United States elected to a state senate. Mr. Hacker is a graduate of the University of North Dakota with a Bachelor of Science degree in Managerial Finance and Corporate Accounting.
Chad Bartholomay
Development Manager - Mr. Bartholomay brings extensive construction and management experience to the team. He is a licensed contractor and former owner of several construction-related companies. Mr. Bartholomay surveys each redevelopment project and accurately assesses the needs and determines the resources that are necessary to maintain and revitalize each project. He has direct oversight of all construction during the redevelopment phase and coordinates all new construction projects to ensure that the costs are managed and quality is achieved. Mr. Bartholomay has a passion for development along with an entrepreneurial spirit. He earned his bachelor's degree in management from the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks.

Marcil nominated for Governor's Choice Award
Fargo ND October 2, 2007 - Mike Marcil, CEO of The Marcil Group, has been nominated for the North Dakota Innovator of the Year award.
The sixth annual Governor's Choice for Economic Development awards is sponsored by the North Dakota Department of Commerce. Nominations are accepted in five award categories: Professional Developer of the Year, Volunteer Developer of the Year, Project of the Year, Ambassador of the Year and Innovator of the Year. Winners will be selected later this month and will receive recognition and $1,000 earmarked for an economic development association of their choice.
"I am honored by this nomination," said Marcil. "I believe it is a reflection of both our commitment to and belief in the state of North Dakota."
